Settling into the Nursery

Adaptation is one of the most important and sensitive periods in nursery life. Our goal is for this process to take place calmly, gradually, and lovingly, with the active involvement of the parents.

What does gradual adaptation mean?

In the first days, the parent stays with the child in the group so that the child feels safe in the new environment. The educators gradually take over the role — first during joint play, then with short periods of separation. The goal is for the child to connect naturally with the new community with minimal crying or stress. Adaptation usually lasts about two weeks, but every child adjusts at their own pace — therefore, we are flexible: if a child needs more or less time, we adapt with patience and understanding.

Our adaptation principles:

  • 1We pay individual attention to every child — there is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach.
  • 2The parent’s presence is essential during the first days.
  • 3It is important that the child feels their parent leaves them in a safe place and will always return for them.
  • 4We respect each child’s own pace.

We offer flexible care options: 2 days a week, 3 days a week, 4 days a week, or full-time daily care. Every family’s needs are different — our goal is to find the best solution for everyone.

Settling In

The goal of settling in is for the child and the parent to gradually and safely become familiar with the kindergarten environment. It usually lasts about two weeks, but it may be quicker if the child has previously been in a community setting. It mostly begins in the summer or in September.

Our principles:

  • Gradualness:

the child first becomes familiar with the kindergarten together with the parent.

  • Safety:

emotional security and building trust are essential for the child.

  • Getting to know others:

an opportunity to get to know the teachers, assistants, and peers.

  • Parental support:

cooperation between parents and educators ensures that the child integrates into the kindergarten community calmly and joyfully.

  • Playfulness:

we ease the adaptation process through playful activities.

  • Flexibility:

the process adapts to the needs of the child and the family.

TIP: We can help our child a lot if, before the settling-in period begins, we let them get used to being cared for by others, such as grandparents or friends.
